ABOUT US

Since opening in 2016, Cthulhu Divers set out to not only offer Cancun's most exciting dive tours but, through the use of local staff who all receive SEMARNAT nature conservation training, we also give you an opportunity to support both the local community while helping to preserve our fragile Caribbean reef ecosystem.

We first found success at our location in Costa Mujers next door the Villa del Palmar Hotel but in 2021 we moved to a more central location, near the entrance of Cancún's famous hotel zone, in order to better service our divers. We have since steadily grown to become one of the most successful dive operations in the area. This has lead to our team of instructors getting to spend a significant amount of time in the water and are some of the most experienced scuba professionals in the region they are sure to make your diving an adventure one you'll never forget.

Our main focus is on diver training, recreational scuba diving and water sports related activities at an affordable price around Cancun and Isla Mujeres. We offer a full range of PADI scuba diving courses and beginner programs starting from Discover Scuba Diving up to PADI Divemaster along with daily dive trips and other non-diving excursions.

Natalia 'Lola' Barragan

Client Experience Manager

A natural people person, Natalia works avidly with our clients to customize our bespoke tours to each of their requirements and to make sure that they all run without a hitch. With her fingers on the pulse of Cancun's night life, she is also the most qualified staff member to make recommendations for restaurants, night clubs and non-diving tours. Nevertheless, her favorite role is undoubtedly that of ‘mom' to her young son (and future dive instructor) who is forever finding a reason to jump in our pool.

Nicholas John Benn

Operation's Manager: 548542

Nick Benn is both the newest member and the petrol-head of our team. Formerly a South African super bike racer and owner of two Harley Davidson and BMW motorcycle mechanic shops in Knysna and Cape Town, Nick moved to Mexico in 2022 and is now directly responsible for keeping our awesome dive shop running smoothly and safely for certified divers, students and staff alike. Ex military, Nick likes to stay fighting-fit and so can be found most mornings in the local cross-fit training center.

Carla Garza

A dive instructor by day, Carla runs her own dietitian business by night centred around Keto and low carb meal plans. Inline with her passion for fitness, she is also really passionate about teaching the Rescue Diver Course which is the most physical PADI course. A professional singer too, one only needs to listen for her voice to find her as she is commonly serenades our clients and staff while she setting up your gear.

Vicente Gonzalez

PADI Instructor: 159492

Our most highly certified dive instructor, Vicente has been training divers for longer than many of us have been diving. Furthermore, he also holds the numerous qualifications for cavern diving and, as such, has been granted special permissions from local government to lead dives in certain cenotes which most other local dive guides simply aren't allowed to enter with clients. A father of two, when one sees him with his kids, it is certain that every breath he takes from his regulator, he takes for his family.

Griffin

Moral Support Officer: Woof!

Ladies want to pet him and men want to be him. Griffin is undoubtedly the ladies man of our team. Despite being literally raized on the streetz and his “Oh, hell no!!!” attitude to any body of water deeper than three inches, Griffin continues to be the most beloved member of our staff. He offers all our clients a warm welcome on arrival and shows unparalleled enthusiasm for after-dive snack disposal.

Nicholas Hosken

PADI Instructor: 381169

Nick, an ex computer systems electrical engineer, left sunny London in 2014 in search of a way out of the rat race and finally settled down here in Cancun in early 2015. While he can mostly be found in a pool teaching his favorite course, the PADI Discover Scuba Program, each afternoon, he also works as the main point of contact for clients who get in touch with some of the more technical related questions. In his free time he likes to pretend that he can play the guitar.

Benny Labra

SDI Instructor: 33572

Even though he is originally from Guerrero, we don't hold it against him. Benny is our youngest, most enthusiastic member of our team and is known for his patient and supportive teaching style that makes sure his students feel confident and comfortable in the water. In addition to teaching, Benny is also an active member of the local diving community and often participates in beach cleanups and turtle conservation efforts to help protect our ocean and its inhabitants.
